RSBP Visit

Today we had a special visitor - Lindsey from the RSPB.

First we were given a challenge - we had to sort bird pictures into 2 categories - those that would be found in the rainforest and those that would be found in Scotland.

We had to work together and communicate with each other.

Listening to each other was important.

Next we discussed why birds in the rainforest look different to the birds we see in Scotland. Can you remember why?

Why are some rainforest birds rare?

Next Lindsay spoke to us about different birds that you see in Orkney. Lindsey spoke about Song Thrush, Greenfinch and Collared dove. What did each of these birds eat?

Then we made some bird food.

What is in the bird food?

We had to mix it up with our hands. What did it feel like?

At the end of the lesson Lindsey told us we had 3 special jobs:
1. The bird food must be kept in the fridge
2. Only put 1 or 2 pieces of bird food out at a time
3. Put the bird food out in the open

Can you remember why these things are important?

We will be taking part in the RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch . We will keep you updated on how many birds we see.
