Fruit kebabs with honey-yoghurt dip

As part of our literacy topic we are learning to follow and write instructions.

This week we followed a recipe.

First we had to make our honey-yoghurt dip. We took turns to put the yoghurt and honey in a bowl and mix it together.

We discussed the difference between a teaspoon and a tablespoon.

Next, we had to pick our fruit.

We had a lot of fruit to choose from: banana, strawberry, grape, melon, kiwi, blueberry, raspberry and pineapple.

After we had chosen our fruit, we had to put the fruit on the skewers

Finally, we got to enjoy our fruit kebabs whilst reading our class book, Amelia Jane :)

Mud houses

Our topic this term is 'Homes Around the World'. We have been investigating different types of homes and comparing them to houses in Scotland.

Last week we researched mud houses. We learned that mud is a good material to build a home from in warm places such as Kenya, because it is really hot and it makes the mud strong.

We were then given a challenge - work as a team and create a model of a mud house! We created a plan for our mud house and thought about the different materials we could use to help us build our model. We realised that it was important to listen to each other as we all had lots of interesting ideas!

When we were making our models, everyone played an important part in the team as we all had different jobs:

- Time keeper  made sure we did not run out of time
- Resource manager collected the materials and made sure we didn't make a mess
- Quality manager checked the model was excellent quality and looked like a mud house
- Volume controller - making sure we did not get too noisy

We were given 45 minutes to make our models and we realised it is important to listen and talk to each other. We also realised that if you work together you can get lots done!
